Excercise question...

Which is better?

Running up the stairs,

or

Jogging?

Better meaning which gives you a better workout... ?

What are you trying to achieve? Just off the top of my head I would say the stairs, especially if you have access to large section of bleachers where you can run up and down them for long distances without stopping to turn around. You get more resistance on the stairs because you work against gravity harder. For more of a lengthy long distance workout maybe jogging would be better however.

Running up stairs or any hill will build strength in your legs for sprinting etc. Jogging (which you would obviously do for longer) will work better to reduce fat and tone muscle. Jogging is an aerobic exercise, the longer you do it the more fat you'll burn and fitness and stamina you'll build. Hillsprints/stairclimbs are definitely more of an exercise in strength.

Depends on how far you jog or how many stair you run up. But running stairs is great for you legs and knees, but running down stairs is bad for you knees.

stairs.

Really depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you just want to gain a little bit fitness and lose some weight then jogging is the best. But if you want to become fit and have a lot more stamina and good cardio levels then jogging up and down stairs is by far the best.

Find a gym with a Stairmaster Stepmill(the row of stairs machine) it's a wonderful cardio machine.

I dont exercise regularly but I would say, bicycling, stair stepping and jogging.

Is there a fitness thread around? With obesity being rampant around the U.S. and other industrialized countries where most of us live, do we have a thread here to sort of encourage each other, measure each other's progress in any exercise regimen, and advise each other about how to stay fit?

While you're at it, is there a "rate my poo" thread here, to sort of encourage each other, measure each others poo, and advice each other about how to get more corn in our stool per cubic inch?

depends on where you will be jogging...if you're going to be doing hills and such...that will def. give you a better work out but if you're looking for just something quick that you can do in your own home...obviously the stairs is the right workout for you

I would say its best to vary your cardio work out. Jogging is definately good but vary it with sprint work outs. Also I would recommend swimming its great excercise. Also lifting is good for the bod.
