  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion personally released the ‘Knights of the Nine’ and ‘Shivering Isles’ expansions to much fanfare many years ago. But some people may not know about the total of 8 other smaller add-on’s that Bethesda Game Studio released alongside them. Our resident games journalist Bianco decided to play these 13+ year old pieces of software and share his thoughts on them. He is a crucial member of our team. (DLC = Add-on)

Hello, I don’t usually bother clarifying jokes from videos because it’s funnier when people leave dangerously based comments but I will be going all out just this once. When I said that they did the Mage’s Guild quests better in Morrowind and that that would be the last time I said that phrase, this was in reference to people being incapable of discussing anything TES post-Morrowind without constantly glorifying Morrowind but my tone made it sound like I was clowning on the game itself. Morrowind is my favourite TES game which is very brave of me to say, much like saying New Vegas is your favourite Fallout game, so I can only hope you respect what I am putting on the line by saying this. I figured all the Morrowind footage showing very late-game characters and the multiple references to extended Morrowind lore would be enough to demonstrate this but alas even Sotha Sil something something CHIM Skyrim 2 haha.

sorry for being that guy but saying morrowind is ur favorite elder srolls game is not like saying new vegas is the best fallout. new vegas was rushed and thats pretty tragic considering it was a pretty good game. fallout 3 is def my favorite albeit the story was too short imo.. (havent played 1 or 2). ive been playing oblivion since 2008 i still do but for some reason i havent brought myself to complete anything yet in morrowind.. but whenever i play it i do appreciate a lot of different things, i really like all the text dialogue and reading in a way im glad i havent fully explored morrowind because it means i still have some adventure and new things to see :D

The worst part about the Horse Armor was that it was a bandaid over the actual major problem where enemies would prioritize your horse over you in combat. It's why I bought the damn thing in the first place. But it only gives your horse a bit of extra HP. I'm a new player to oblivion after playing skyrim for several years, and I didn't know that when I downloaded the game from a random website, that it had all the dlcs. So, the minute after I finished the tutorial I got TONS of quests out of nowhere. I decided to try them out since I was too afraid to go into the oblivion gate for the main quest, and I was very disappointed since all of the quests I had completed basically led to me having to pay for several upgrades in the end. I enjoyed the castle but I was only level 2 and had no money to pay for the furnishings. I'd rather sleep in a cozy little hotel room than sleep in a giant empty castle with soulless guards and cobwebs everywhere. Glad to know that these are only small add ons and not in the vanilla game's questline.

If you roleplay just pick the house that fits best nobody forces you to use them all and develop some mental gymnastics in justifying it into you characters backstory.
I loved the vampire lair, also made my character a vampire usually so it fit very well. Also I found that you sometimes have to piece together tidbits of lore by yourself. For example your distant vampire relatives writes of a vampire coup within the black brotherhood which was betrayed by one of their own. The only vampire in the brotherhood that you meet is therefore the traitor. A great bit of lore!
So instead of shitting on dlcs having too many enemies, not fitting YOUR character, or giving you too much to walk, maybe just play your preferred play style and let other people enjoy the world building
